Yachttech is a full service sailboat mast and rigging manufacturing company.

We provide a full range of services. From routine inspection to complete renovation or replacement of your mast boom or rigging. With the use of computer aided design we can produce highly accurate rigging systems. This allows us to keep excellent contruction records which makes service work down the road much easier to deal with.

We work hard to design the perfect spars to meet your requirements.

Yachttech manufactures the highest quality aluminium spars available on the market. We build to the highest specifications using the best quality materials and components that we build in house.

Our team

serge gabilondo Serge has been in the marine industry in Sidney and on the rest of the Island since 1991. He started his own business, Mainstay Rigging, 6 years ago to bring service to the lower half of Vancouver island and the gulf islands. The merger between Mainstay and Yachttech is a perfect fit, bringing together a custom fabrication division and a Mobile rigging shop to better serve our customers Where ever they may be.

  • How long does wire rigging last?
    in Pacific Northwest conditions, 12 to 15 years. should be inspected yearly.
  • How long does Rod rigging last?
    check the Navtec Website: www.navtec.net. the average is 17 years or 40,000 sailing miles. rod rigging can have failures caused by poor leads and damage, and should be inspected by a professional.
  • My boat is not in Sidney, can you still work on it?
    we travel the island from Victoria to Campbell River. We have no scheduled appearances, instead please contact us to make an appointment. By fitting each job in with others in their area we avoid charging unnecessary travel and often only charge a nominal fuel charge.
  • Can you inspect my wooden mast?
    Yes. Although we do not repair or build new wooden masts we can advise you on their maintenance and condition. referrals available should we find any questionable problems.
  • What services do you offer?

  • Is my boat ready for offshore?
    this is a topic that requires inspection. Please make an appointment with us to get your preparations started.
  • Does my furling gear need replacing?
    If your furling gear is 15 years or older - yes. Foils, connectors and ball bearing fatigue with use and parts for older furlers are not commonly found.
  • How often does my boat need to be tuned?
    Tuning should be thought of as regular maintenance. A brand new rod will stretch in the first few months of use and must be re tensioned. After that it depends on level of use. Club Racers should be tuning their boats annually. Active racing crews will often tune the boat for specific sailing conditions. We can help you learn what you need to do to take care of your rig tune.
